A Plan for Reading God's Word
What if there was one thing you could do this year that would change your life forever. Would you do it?
What if there was one thing you could do this year to receive a multitude of blessings from God. Would you do it?
Reading God’s Word is good.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.Romans 10:17
Reading and obeying God’s Word is best.
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.James 1:25
We not only read the Bible for information, but, more importantly, we read for application.
Living by the Word lays a strong, unshakable foundation.
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.Luke 6:47-49
Benefits of Living by the Word
1. We know what’s right.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:2 Timothy 3:16
2. We know what’s wrong.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.Romans 7:7
3. We know how to fix what’s wrong.
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.John 17:17
4. We know how to stay right.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.Psalm 119:11
5. We stay away from sin.
I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.Psalm 119:101-102
6. We cleanse ourselves from sin.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.Psalm 119:9
7. We are made wise.
I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.Psalm 119:99-100
8. We understand life from the appropriate perspective.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.Psalm 119:105
The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.Psalm 119:144
9. We gain joy.
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!Psalm 119:103
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.Psalm 119:111-112
10. We allow our mind to be shaped.
Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.Psalm 119:127-128
Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.Psalm 119:164-165
11. We have hope and courage.
Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God. Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope. Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.Psalm 119:114-117
12. We are comforted and strengthened in times of affliction.
Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.Psalm 119:92-93
Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.Psalm 119:143
13. We have communion with others who love the Word.
They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.Psalm 119:74
14. We have a distaste for sin.
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.Psalm 119:103-104
Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thy testimonies. I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.Psalm 119:157-158
15. We have peace.
Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word. My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes. My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.Psalm 119:170-176

1Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. 2Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. 3They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. 4Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. 5O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! 6Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. 7I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. 8I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly. 9Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes. 13With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. 14I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. 15I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. 16I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Psalm 119:1-16
