The Promise of Christmas Message 03 of 04
The Promised Savior
Pastor Anthony King· December 15, 2024
Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 1:20-23
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
The Savior’s Birth Was Promised Long Before His Arrival.
The promised child is both human and divine.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.John 1:14
The Messiah’s reign is eternal and just.
And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.2 Samuel 7:16
The Savior came to fulfill God’s promise of redemption.
Jesus was born of a virgin, fulfilling prophecy.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.Isaiah 7:14
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.Matthew 1:20
Jesus’ mission is to save His people from their sins.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.John 3:16
The Savior brings peace through reconciliation with God.
reconciliation: the restoration of a broken relationship between God and humanity, accomplished through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. By His death and resurrection, Jesus removed the barrier of sin, allowing sinners to be brought into a right relationship with God.
True peace comes through reconciliation with God.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:1
peace: while not the absence of trials, it is both an inner tranquility given by the Holy Spirit and the absence of enmity between God and humanity, made possible by Christ’s atoning sacrifice.
Jesus’ peace transcends worldly troubles.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.John 14:27
The Savior is God’s presence with us.
God dwells with humanity through Christ.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.Matthew 1:23
God’s presence brings comfort and guidance.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.Hebrews 13:5
Jesus’ humanity and His deity means that God understands the deepest part of our human condition.
Trust in the sovereignty and eternal reign of Jesus.
Our peace comes from our reconciliation with God.
Live daily with awareness of God’s presence.
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:20-23
