Finding Hope and Assurance in Jesus
Authentic salvation is found in faith and repentance.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Romans 10:9-10
Eternal life is good for eternity.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.John 5:24
Genuine salvation saves us from future punishment.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.John 3:18
Genuine salvation cannot be lost. Once saved, always saved.
An attack on the eternal security of the believer is an attack on the greatness of the Father, denigrates the work of Jesus and takes away power from the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
If one has the Holy Spirit forever as a promise of future redemption, is sealed by the Spirit as a sign of Jesus’ ownership, does one lose that promise, security, ownership and indwelling by sinning? If so, the sealing is not as beneficial as it might seem.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.Ephesians 1:13-14
How long are we sealed by the Holy Spirit? Only until we backslide or sin again?
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.Ephesians 4:30
How can one who is saved to the uttermost with Jesus as his advocate ever be lost again?
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.Hebrews 7:25
How can our inheritance be corrupted, defiled, fade away, and our reservation in Heaven be removed, if we are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation?
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.1 Peter 1:3-5
If Jesus has satisfied the payment for of the full penalty of God’s righteous judgment on the cross for our sins, how can one leave that covenant and cause Christ to pay the penalty for sin again?
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;Romans 3:25
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;Hebrews 10:10-12
If Jesus alone is the determining factor in our eternal life, where does our personal behavior factor into our condemnation?
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.John 3:36
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.1 John 5:11-13
How can I be declared righteous by grace, by faith, but be kept by the works of the law?
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.Galatians 2:16
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:27-29
