Finding Hope and Assurance in Jesus
Authentic salvation is found in faith and repentance
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Romans 10:9-10
Eternal life is good for eternity.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.John 5:24
Genuine salvation saves us from future punishment.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.John 3:18
Genuine salvation cannot be lost. Once saved, always saved.
An attack on the eternal security of the believer is an attack on the greatness of the Father, denigrates the work of Jesus and takes away power from the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
How can we be saved and kept by the work of Christ, which does not depend on any human effort, yet lose that salvation and security by human effort? You did nothing to gain it, how can you can do anything to lose it?
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”
Jude 24
If one is born again by an incorruptible seed, how can they be corrupted and die spiritually?
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.1 Peter 1:23
How can one be a new creature in Christ and then become an old creature again?
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17
If we are declared righteous in Christ, how can we be declared guilty again? If we are declared righteous without the deeds of the law, how can the deeds of the flesh condemn us after we are in Christ?
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.Romans 3:28
How does the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, make us alive, but then allow us to die again spiritually?
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.Romans 8:11
Why would God chasten His children if he disavows them? He wouldn’t chasten, He would abandon. If He abandoned, He would not chasten.
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.Hebrews 12:5-8
If one crosses an invisible line and loses their salvation, where is this incredibly important line and how will one know when they have crossed it? Why does Romans 6 encourage Christians not to go back to their sin, but never warns them of condemnation if they do?
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?Romans 5:20-6:2
What other “gift” is taken away for poor behavior? If one must maintain appropriate behavior, it would be a reward, not a gift.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Romans 6:23
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:27-29
