Greater Than Message 04 of 04
Greater Than Our Sin
Pastor Anthony King· December 21, 2025
Matthew 1:21; John 1:29
A Christmas sermon on Matthew 1:21 and John 1:29: Jesus came to save His people by conquering sin through His perfect sacrifice. As the Lamb of God, He takes away both the penalty and the power of sin, offering forgiveness and freedom to all who believe, and His love is greater than our deepest failures.
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:21
Matthew 1:21, John 1:29
Jesus saves us from sin.
Jesus came to rescue His people from the grip and penalty of their sins.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.John 8:34-36
Sin brings death and separation, but Jesus offers mercy and forgiveness by His sacrifice.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Romans 6:23
Only Jesus is able to deliver us because He is both God and man, perfectly qualified to save.
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.Hebrews 7:25
Jesus is God’s gift of love.
God sent Jesus as a Savior, showing His love is greater than our deepest wrongs.
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 5:6-8
God’s love for the world is shown in sending His Son for us, not because we were worthy, but because He is merciful.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.John 3:16
The name “Jesus” means “The Lord saves,” emphasizing that our rescue is initiated by God’s grace.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;Titus 3:5
Jesus is the Lamb who takes away sin.
Jesus is God’s chosen Lamb, offered to take away our sin once and for all.
The sacrificial lamb in the Old Testament pointed to Jesus, who alone accomplishes true forgiveness.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.Isaiah 53:6
Through His death, Jesus takes away not only our sin’s penalty but also its power over our lives.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.1 Peter 2:24
Jesus offers salvation for everyone.
Jesus came not just for one group, but to offer forgiveness and a new life for the whole world.
Salvation in Jesus is available to anyone who will believe and receive Him, without exception.
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.Acts 10:43
Jesus draws people from every nation and background, making them part of His redeemed family.
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;Revelation 7:9
Don’t be trapped by your past. Jesus’ sacrifice covers all of our sin and shame. All of it.
Let the truth of Jesus as the Lamb lead us to worship with grateful humility.
Share the message of hope with those who feel far from God, knowing Jesus’ grace can reach them too.
Walk in freedom. Jesus breaks the power of sin so a new way of life is always possible.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29
