Micah 5:2-5
A Christmas sermon on Micah 5:2-5: God keeps His greatest promises through humble, unexpected places, sending the eternal Messiah from little Bethlehem. Jesus, our true Shepherd, gathers, protects and provides for His people, and because He is our peace we can trust His faithfulness in every circumstance.
“But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”
Micah 5:2
God’s promise is fulfilled in humble places. Jesus the King comes from little Bethlehem.
God often works through unexpected and ordinary means, showing that His power is not limited by our status or location.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;1 Corinthians 1:27
The promised Savior arises from humble circumstances to meet the greatest spiritual need, just as Jesus was born in a manger.
He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.Luke 1:52
The Messiah is eternal. His origin is from ancient times, long before Bethlehem.
Jesus existed before all things and is the eternal Son, showing that His redemption plan was set before the world began.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.John 1:1
His coming was God’s decision from everlasting past, proving God’s faithfulness to deliver on His promises.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.Revelation 22:13
Jesus stands as our true Shepherd. He protects, feeds, and gathers His people with God’s strength.
Jesus guides and cares for His flock, ensuring they lack nothing essential.
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.Psalm 23:1
He gathers people from every tribe and tongue, making a united people through His leadership.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.Isaiah 40:11
Jesus is our perfect peace. He does not just bring peace, He is peace itself for all who trust Him.
The peace Jesus offers is not just the end of trouble, but a deep reconciliation with God.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:1
His life and death secure our calm and safety, despite the storms of this world.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.John 14:27
Trust God to work through your ordinary circumstances. He often does the miraculous in unlikely places. It won’t always be flashy.
Rest in Christ’s eternal nature and promises. He is unchanging and always faithful.
Follow Jesus daily, accepting the Spirit’s guidance like sheep follow a shepherd. Obey and depend on Him.
Receive and share the peace Jesus brings. Pass it on in relationships, troubles, and moments of fear. True peace is found in Him alone.
2But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. 3Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. 4And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. 5And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. Micah 5:2-5
