Philippians 4:6
The series
What the Bible has to say about fear.
Anxious: experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome:
The Christian life is meant to be a life of boldness, not one of fear and anxiety.
Ensure your heart is fully right before God.
Nothing induces anxiety and fear like unconfessed sin and a rebellious heart.
Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law. Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word. Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes.Psalm 119:153-155
What you do…
Don’t worry.
Worry steals our joy, as worry focuses on self and keeps us from focusing on God and His Word.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.Psalm 18:1-2
Cast your cares upon Jesus.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:1 Peter 5:7-8
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.Psalm 55:22
Pray.
Prayer is an admission that we cannot, and dare not, do this without God.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.Psalm 18:3-6
Tell God what you need.
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.Psalm 50:15
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.Jeremiah 33:3
Give thanks.
I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.Psalm 7:17
To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.Psalm 9:1-2
O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.Isaiah 25:1
What God does…
Gives peace.
Through His presence.
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews
13:5-6
Through His promises.
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.Isaiah 64:4
His peace is beyond comprehension.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.Romans 15:13
The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.Psalm 29:11
Steadies your heart and mind.
The peace of God’s presence and His promises arrest our hearts and minds.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.Proverbs 4:23
We must guard our hearts and minds to maintain this peace.
Don’t worry, but focus your attention on the Lord.
Pray and give thanks in advance.
Walk in the peace that God gives you.
Guard your heart and mind.
6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:6-8
