Psalms 55:1
The series
What the Bible has to say about fear.
Pour out your heart to God.
This is not a one-time prayer, but a continual running to God for help.
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.2 Corinthians 12:7-8
Cry aloud to Him.
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.Psalm 3:3-4
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.Psalm 62:8
He promises to hear.
O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.Psalm 34:3-4
When fear comes, we make the mistake of looking for an immediate exit.
We errantly feel like a change of venue would result in relief.
God doesn’t always calm the storm, but instead calms our heart in the storm.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.2 Corinthians 12:8-9
Escapism is not a strategy.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?Psalm 11:1
Peace comes from constant communion with God.
Take your fear to God and pray all of the time.
Pray without ceasing.1 Thessalonians 5:17
Train your heart to crave time with God.
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.Psalm 63:1-3
The ability to endure for the long haul requires that God carries our burdens and our fears for us.
We were never meant to carry our burdens alone.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:1 Peter 5:7-8
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.Psalm 55:22
God will often use others to shoulder the burden alongside you.
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.Galatians 6:2
The level of peace we have is directly related to our level of faith in God.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.Psalm 37:5
Settle into your fears. You might be here for a minute.
Lean into God like never before. He is the source of peace.
Allow God to use other Christians to strengthen you for the journey.
Cry out to God. He promises to hear.
“Nearness and presence will be recurring themes in God’s words of comfort to fearful people. Of course, the earth belongs to the Lord and, as Spirit, God is not bound by the limitations of space. He is everywhere at all times. When he underscores his presence, it means that he is working on behalf of his people. It means that he is for them. He is an active, protecting, comforting presence. When he says he is near, watch for his mighty acts. When he is near, he is really near.”

1To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication. 2Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise; 3Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me. 4My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. 5Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. 6And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. 7Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. 8I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest. 9Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city. 10Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it. 11Wickedness is in the midst thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streets. 12For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: 13But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. 14We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company. 15Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them. 16As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. 17Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. 18He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me. 19God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God. 20He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant. 21The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords. 22Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. 23But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
