Hebrews 2:1
The series
Having hope in a God who never changes!
Drifting doesn’t happen due to rebellion. It happens due to carelessness. (v.1)
We must guard against sinfulness, but also against negligence.
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;Deuteronomy 4:9
Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.Joshua 23:11
Drifting takes place when we make small concessions along the way. (v.2)
We must pay close attention to what God is saying.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.Proverbs 4:1-7
We must be intentional in our quest for wisdom.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.Proverbs 12:15
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,Ephesians 5:15
We must be intentional in our commitment to obedience.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.James 4:17
Jesus is the anchor that keeps us from drifting. (v.3)
Stay connected to Jesus.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;1 Timothy 4:1
Stay yielded to the Holy Spirit.
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.Ephesians 4:30
Quench not the Spirit.1 Thessalonians 5:19
1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; 4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? Hebrews 2:1-4
