Psalm 18:1-26
“To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.”
Psalms 18:1
The series
Having hope in a God who never changes!
God is always at work on behalf of His children.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.Psalm 121:3-4
“God is always doing 10,000 things in your life and you may be aware of three of them.”
God’s grace is freely available to all.
We cannot earn the grace of God. Grace and works are mutually exclusive.
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.Romans 11:6
Salvation is given, not by merit, but by God’s undeserved favor.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9
God punishes the wicked.
But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.Job 11:20
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.Job 21:17
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.Psalm 9:17
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.Psalm 11:6
God chastises His disobedient children.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.Revelation 3:19
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.Proverbs 3:12
God rewards the righteous.
The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.Proverbs 10:28
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.Proverbs 11:21
God will always do His part, but I must do mine.
My part is obedience.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.Psalm 18:20
Many promises of God are conditional. Many of God’s promises cannot be claimed without following God’s processes.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.Proverbs 3:5-6
Consistency in my walk with Jesus allows me to experience joy and see God’s blessings.
Faith pleases God.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.Hebrews 11:6
Intentional seeking of God brings his blessing and reward.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.Hebrews 11:6
If we honor God, He will honor us.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.Proverbs 21:21
Walking in obedience takes the pressure off of us and places it back on God.
He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.Psalm 18:48-49
We must be intentional and guard against heart drift.
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.2 Peter 3:17
Faithfulness to Jesus isn’t measured in days and weeks, but years and decades.
Faithfulness to Jesus cannot be a phase you’re going through.
Consistency in your walk with Jesus compounds your hope.
1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 4The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 5The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. 6In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. 7Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. 8There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. 9He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. 10And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. 11He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. 12At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. 13The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. 14Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. 15Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. 16He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. 17He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. 18They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. 19He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. 21For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 22For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. 23I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. 24Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. 25With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright; 26With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward. Psalm 18:1-26
