The series
Having hope in a God who never changes!
God is love.
Love is not something that God does, it is Who He is.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.1 John 4:7
God’s love at work in us is proof that we are His children.
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.1 John 4:16
From God’s love flows his mercy and grace.
Mercy is God’s care and compassion shown by withholding his righteous wrath and judgement.
It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.Lamentations 3:22
“God’s mercy is a quality of His compassion, especially as expressed in His forgiveness of human sin. Scripture stresses God’s forbearance towards sinners. In his mercy, God shields sinners from what they deserve and gives gifts that they do not deserve.”
God’s mercy is motivated by his lovingkindness.
Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.Psalm 25:6
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.Psalm 69:16
Grace is God’s undeserved and unmerited favor shown by showering us with His multitude of blessings.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.Psalm 111:4
God’s mercy and grace are the critical foundation of our salvation.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;Titus 3:5
God’s mercy is shown by withholding his wrath and punishment.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.John 3:36
God’s grace is shown by giving us His Son, His Spirit, eternal life, adoption to His family and so much more.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;Romans 3:23-25
God has imputed the righteousness of Jesus to us.
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.Romans 4:19-25
God gives complete forgiveness to those who come to Him in faith and repentance.
Our sin is removed from us, but placed upon Jesus.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus taking our sin was the only way to bring us to God.
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:1 Peter 3:18
Repentance is the only way to cleanse yourself of sin. Repentance is a critical part of the Gospel.
For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;Isaiah 59:12
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9
God doesn’t deal with us according to our sin, but according to His love, mercy and grace.
Failure is not final. God’s love, mercy and grace always give us a path forward.
God will not be merciful and gracious forever. There is coming a day of reckoning.
8The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. Psalm 103:8-13
