Hebrews 6:10
The series
Having hope in a God who never changes!
We have hope in God’s promises. (v.13)
God’s promises are unbreakable.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.Matthew 24:35
It is impossible for God to lie.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;Titus 1:2
We have a hope in God’s oath. (v.17)
God doesn’t need to prove Himself or back up His word, but He does.
And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.Genesis 22:15-18
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.Isaiah 45:23
We have hope in God’s immutability. (v.17)
Beware of “progressive” Christianity.
The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:Isaiah 14:24
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.Malachi 3:6
The fact that God never changes allows us to have an unwavering source of hope in Him.
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.Psalm 33:11
There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.Proverbs 19:21
We have hope in God’s refuge. (v.18)
Jesus is our place of safety and protection. The cities of refuge were six cities set aside by *Moses to which those accused of killing someone unintentionally could flee and await trial without fear of being killed by the avenger of blood. If the accused was found to have killed unintentionally, that person had to remain in the city of refuge until the death of the high *priest in office at the time of the offense (Num 35:28).
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.Psalm 32:7
Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.Psalm 119:114
We have an anchor for our soul. (v.19)
Biblical times…boat harbor…large rocks….anchor in small boat….go ahead…forerunner.
Sure: to fasten or make secure
Jesus is sure, immovable and unshakeable.
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;1 Timothy 1:1
Jesus is steadfast, unwavering and firm. Steadfast: trustworthy, firm, durable,
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.Hebrews 3:6
When life gets difficult, we need a place of refuge.
With so much instability in the world today, we need something that never changes.
Amidst the storms of life, we need an anchor fastened to a solid rock.
10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17Where in God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews 6:10-20
