Philippians 4:10
The series
A Sunday evening series on living an extraordinary faith in an ordinary life.
Contentment is learned, not given.
Paul had to learn it, which means youâre not failing when it doesnât come naturally.
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.Proverbs 15:15
God grows contentment in you through the ordinary seasons youâd rather skip.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;Romans 5:3
Your circumstances donât get to set your joy.
A full table can dull your heart just as fast as an empty one.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:Proverbs 30:8
Godliness with contentment is the real gain, not the stuff youâre chasing.
But godliness with contentment is great gain.1 Timothy 6:6
Plenty is just as dangerous to your soul as need.
Prosperity tempts you to forget the God who gave it to you.
Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;Deuteronomy 8:11-13
What you already have is enough, because God promised Heâll never leave you.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.Hebrews 13:5
Your strength for this season comes from Jesus, not from you.
You canât manufacture contentment, you have to draw it from Him.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.John 15:5
His strength shows up best in the seasons when you are at your lowest.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.2 Corinthians 12:9
Name the season youâre actually in.
Stop the sentence that starts with âIâll be content when.â
Thank God out loud for three ordinary things.
Give something away this month.
10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. 11Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:10-13
