Trust in the Lord Message 06 of 11
Where is Your Trust?
Pastor Anthony King· February 5, 2023
Psalm 20:7
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”
Psalm 20:7
Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
Trust is fostered, earned and won.
Trust can also be diminished, broken and lost.
Why is it so difficult to trust God?
We are tempted to trust in our own abilities.
We are tempted to trust in others.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.Proverbs 25:19
We are tempted to trust in what the world has to offer.
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.Isaiah 31:1-3
We are tempted to trust in riches.
Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.Psalm 52:7
God is the source of our salvation, but He is also the source of our victory.
And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.Psalm 37:40
When we go to battle, we’re tempted to trust our weaponry rather than the provider of our weapons.
When we place our trust in things rather than God, we are placing our faith in things, not the God who gave us things.
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;1 Timothy 6:17
A lack of trust produces worry and anxiety.
Trust displaces worry and anxiety.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7
Trust and faith are similar, yet different.
Faith is based on evidence, but eventually taking God at His Word.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
—Hebrews 11:1
Trust is based on character, consistent behavior and a faithful record.
Praise causes us to remember the faithfulness of God and trust Him more.
For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.Psalm 117:2
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7
