The Characteristics of Godly Wisdom
Pastor Anthony King· February 13, 2022
James 3:17-18
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”
James 3:17-18

A Study in James
God’s wisdom is pure.
This wisdom is holy and undefiled.
God’s wisdom loves peace.
The world has a spirit of competitiveness and selfish ambition.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.Matthew 5:9
God’s wisdom is gentle.
equitable, seemly, fitting, fair, moderate, forbearing, courteous, and considerate This wisdom is kind and not harsh or abrasive.
God’s wisdom is ready to obey and is teachable.
True wisdom realizes that we must continue to grow in knowledge and wisdom.
God’s wisdom is full of mercy and compassion.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.1 John 3:16-18
Love overrules impatience and allows us to meet people where they are.
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.Matthew 9:36
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.Matthew 14:14
God’s wisdom is impartial and does not discriminate.
God’s Truth and wisdom are applied universally.
God’s wisdom is genuine without hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is one of the sins that Jesus most condemns in Scripture.
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.Matthew 7:5
In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.Luke 12:1
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?Matthew 22:18
A harvest of righteousness comes from creating an environment of peace.
God’s wisdom will flourish in a climate of peace and bring about righteousness.
And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.Isaiah 32:17
17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. James 3:17-18
