Victory Over Satan

Submission to God will cause us to stand against the devil.

Victory over Satan comes from continued resistance.

We must understand our enemy to ensure victory.

Satan is a created being.

Satan is a limited being.

Satan is doomed to eternal judgment.

Satan is the enemy of both God and man.

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.2 Corinthians 12:7

Satan manipulates the Word of God.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:Genesis 3:1-4

Satan tempts us with carnal desire.

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.1 Chronicles 21:1

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?Acts 5:3

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.Luke 4:1-3

Food, Status, Power

Satan is a liar.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.John 8:44

Satan is opposed to the Gospel.

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.Matthew 13:19

Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.1 Thessalonians 2:18

Satan thrives on confusion and doubt.

And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.Genesis 3:13

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.Matthew 13:38-39

We resist Satan through the use of Scripture.

The Word guides us into truth and away from error.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.Psalm 119:105

The Word brings clarity to the confusion.

Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word. Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.Psalm 119:17-18

The Word allows us to keep our hearts from sin and resist temptation.

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.Psalm 119:11

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.Psalm 119:9

We resist Satan by submission to God.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.Romans 6:11-13
