Lordship and Submission

Jesus Christ is Lord.

Lord means master.

Jesus is Lord whether you acknowledge it or not.

We have the choice to acknowledge the lordship of Jesus.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.Matthew 7:21

We have the choice to submit to the lordship of Jesus.

The acknowledgement of Jesus’ lordship is a mental affirmation and agreement. The submission to Jesus’ lordship is a practical capitulation with daily implications.

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?Luke 6:46

Submission to Jesus as master, requires us to adopt the role of bondslave.

The bondslave is a position with no property, no rights and no will.

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.John 5:30

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.Galatians 1:10

The bondslave is the position of ultimate humility.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.Philippians 2:5-8

Refusal to submit to the lordship of Jesus only admits your bondage to sin and idolatry.

But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.Romans 6:17-21

Everyone must choose their master. Jesus or your sin.

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.John 8:34

There is a day coming when all will confess Jesus as Lord.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Philippians 2:9-11

Submission to Jesus is an act of faith and worship.
