A Study in James
If you are suffering, pray.
God desires and promises to hear our cry.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.1 Peter 5:7
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.Psalm 18:6
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.Psalm 91:15
God comforts us, so we can comfort others.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.2 Corinthians 1:3-4
If you are suffering, spend time in the Psalms.
If you are happy, praise.
Praise is never predicated on our circumstances.
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.Philippians 4:4
Joy is happiness based on spiritual realities.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.James 1:2-3
If you are praising God, spend time in the Psalms.
You must prioritize personal worship.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.John 15:5-8
If you are spiritually exhausted, your pastors will encourage you.
The Greek word ‘kamno’ speaks of spiritual fainting and weariness.
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.Hebrews 12:3
The spiritual leadership of your church family should refresh you.
Part of the restoration process is repentance.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.Proverbs 28:13
13Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:13-15
