A Study in James
Confession to God is required for repentance.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.Psalm 51:1-4
Confession to others is required for those we have wronged.
This includes individuals or groups.
This sometimes includes the church.
Confession of our own sin to others is important for accountability.
Sin has power in the darkness.
Sin no longer has power in the light.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.Proverbs 28:13
Godly, wise, spiritual Christians are part of the restoration process.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.Galatians 6:1-2
Ordinary people can pray and receive supernatural results.
Power in prayer has less to do with special anointing and more of the obedience of the one praying.
The righteous person gets what they ask for in prayer, because their requests match the heart of their Father.
If there’s sin you need to confess, confess it.
If you need accountability, ask for it.
If you want power in prayer, keep your heart right.
16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. James 5:16-18
