Is It a Sin to Be Rich?

Abraham was rich.

Solomon was the richest.

And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.2 Chronicles 9:22

God is the source of wealth.

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.Deuteronomy 8:18

When God blesses, there is no downside.

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.Proverbs 10:22

If God blesses, He blesses. We don’t seek riches.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.Psalm 62:10

Our trust must be in God, not the things He’s given us.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;1 Timothy 6:17

We must pursue true riches.

The Word of God

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.Colossians 3:16

Knowing God

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!Romans 11:33

Wisdom

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.Proverbs 4:5-7

Relationships

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:1 Peter 1:22

We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.1 John 3:14

Doing good

That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;1 Timothy 6:18

Contentment

He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.Proverbs 28:22

Don’t follow money as the key indicator of God’s will.
