Jesus is Worth It
Pastor Anthony King· January 19, 2025
Colossians 1:15-20
From Colossians 1:15-20, Pastor Anthony King teaches why Jesus is worth it.
“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:”
Colossians 1:15
Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God, revealing His divine nature and authority.
Jesus is the exact representation of God’s essence, making the invisible God known to humanity.
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.John 1:18
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;Hebrews 1:3
As the “firstborn over all creation,” Jesus holds supremacy over all created things.
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.Hebrews 1:6
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.Psalm 89:26-27
The term “firstborn” signifies rank and authority, not that He was created.
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.John 8:56-58
Jesus is the Creator and Sustainer of all things in heaven and on earth.
All creation owes its existence to Christ, who is both its origin and purpose.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.John 1:3
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.1 Corinthians 8:6
Jesus sustains creation by His power, holding everything together.
Jesus is the head of the church and the firstborn from the dead.
As head of the church, Jesus leads His people with authority, love and care.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.Matthew 16:18
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;Ephesians 5:25
Jesus has given you a pastor to guide you.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.Acts 20:28
As “firstborn from the dead,” Jesus guarantees resurrection life for believers.
Through His blood on the cross, Jesus reconciles all things to Himself.
Reconciliation through Christ brings peace between God and creation.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;Ephesians 2:14
This reconciliation extends to all creation. There is no realm where Jesus is not King.
Ask yourself, “Is Jesus preeminent in every area of my life?”
Trust in Jesus as your sustainer in the middle of life’s challenges.
Since the church is important to Jesus, make sure it’s important to you.
Share your story of reconciliation with others.
15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. Colossians 1:15-20
