The Gospel in Our Families
Pastor Anthony King· February 16, 2025
Colossians 3:18-21
How can we live out the Gospel in our families? Pastor Anthony King preaches on putting the Gospel into practice at home.
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.”
Colossians 3:18
Husbands and wives are called to model Jesus’ self-giving love.
Wives are called to submit to their husbands as an act of obedience to the Lord.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.Ephesians 5:22-24
Husbands are called to love their wives sacrificially, as Jesus loved the Church.
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.Colossians 3:19
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;Ephesians 5:25
God’s plan for headship is not about value, worth or importance, but about order.
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.1 Corinthians 11:3
Parents are entrusted with the responsibility to nurture their children in godliness.
Children are called to obey their parents as an act of obedience to God.
Fathers must avoid provoking their children to anger but instead encourage them.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.Proverbs 22:6
Loving discipline doesn’t provoke our children to wrath; hypocrisy and anger do.
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.James 1:20
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.Proverbs 13:24
Family roles reflect God’s design for unity and mutual respect within His creation.
Marriage reflects Jesus’ relationship with His Church.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.Genesis 2:24
Parent-child relationships reflect God’s covenantal care for His people.
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.Hebrews 12:6
It’s the responsibility of every father to reflect the character of God to help his children properly understand who God is.
71% of high school dropouts come from fatherless homes. 80% of incarcerated males come from fatherless homes. 71% of adolescents in substance abuse treatment centers come from fatherless homes.

The supremacy of Jesus transforms family relationships into testimonies of His grace.
The family becomes a witness to God’s design for love and order.
And what soever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.Colossians 3:17
Transformed families reflect God’s kingdom values to a watching world.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.Matthew 5:16
Prioritize Christ’s lordship in your home life.
Husbands and wives should practice selfless love daily.
Praise and encouragement of our children should far outweigh discipline and correction.
Children should honor their parents joyfully.
18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. 20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. Colossians 3:18-21
