A sermon on Colossians 3:22-23 and how the way we act at work is worship to God.
“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And what soever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
Colossians 3:22-23
Work is an act of worship when done for Jesus’ glory.
All work, when done wholeheartedly, reflects our reverence for God.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.Ecclesiastes 9:10
Our work glorifies God when it is aligned with His purposes.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.1 Corinthians 10:31
Christians should be known for their exemplary character, integrity and grace in all areas, especially in the workplace.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.1 Peter 2:11-12
Faithfulness in work reflects our heavenly reward.
God rewards faithfulness in even the smallest responsibilities.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.Matthew 25:21
The ultimate reward for our labor is eternal inheritance from Christ.
Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.1 Corinthians 3:8
Our work ethic testifies to our relationship with Christ.
Working with sincerity and diligence reflects Christ’s character in us.
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;Ephesians 6:6
Our actions at work should shine as a testimony to others.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.Matthew 5:16
Viewing work as worship transforms ordinary tasks into sacred service.
Every task becomes significant when offered as service to God.
And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.Matthew 10:42
Work done for Christ cultivates joy and purpose in our lives.
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.Hebrews 6:10
People don’t hate Christians for being Christlike. They hate them for being hypocritical, disingenuous, judgmental and unkind.
You aren’t just punching a clock, you’ve been sent on a Kingdom assignment.
Your vocation doesn’t define you, your ownership does.
Encourage others through your example.
Use your influence to show the goodness of God to others.
22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: 23And what soever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Colossians 3:22-23
