Things Above Message 16 of 17
Finish 2025 Strong
Pastor Anthony King· December 28, 2025
Colossians 3:1-4
A year-end sermon on Colossians 3:1-4 about finishing strong by setting your heart on eternal things, not worldly distractions. Following Jesus means daily surrender, self-denial and a clear break from the world's values, and affections set on Christ reshape a life to make an eternal impact.
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1
You belong to a different kingdom.
When you got saved, you submitted to Jesus as Lord.
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?Luke 6:46
You were transferred into the Kingdom of God.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:Colossians 1:13
You cannot claim Jesus as Lord while living by the world’s rules.
The world’s grip must be broken.
You have been delivered from this present evil world.
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:Galatians 1:4
Jesus did not die to make you comfortable here. He died to free you from here.
Love for the world and love for God cannot coexist.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.1 John 2:15
Eternal vision changes everything.
When your eyes are fixed on eternity, you will see people differently.
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.Matthew 9:36
Compassion for the lost flows from seeing what truly matters.
When you taste the goodness of Jesus, the world loses its flavor.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.John 6:35
Death to self is not optional.
The crucified life is the Christian life.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.Galatians 2:20
Following Jesus requires daily denial.
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.Luke 9:23
The surrender is not seasonal, it is continual.
Where you look determines where you go.
Whatever captures your heart will control your life.
Your affections determine your actions.
Your belief determines your behavior.
Take an inventory of your heart.
Establish a daily death ritual.
Identify and eliminate the worldly distractions that are holding you back.
Do something this week that impacts eternity.
1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
