Things Above Message 10 of 17
Thinking on the Things Above
Pastor Anthony King· March 16, 2025
Colossians 3:1-4
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Colossians 3:1
Seek the things above where Christ reigns.
Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, demonstrating His authority and sovereignty over all creation.
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.Colossians 3:1
This world is not our home.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;1 Peter 2:11
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:Philippians 3:20
Set your mind on eternal realities, not earthly distractions.
The world’s system is a diversionary tactic of the enemy.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.1 John 2:15-16
Live for a life that lasts, not for one that will burn.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.1 John 2:17
Renewing our minds transforms us to discern God’s will.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.Romans 12:2
Our true life is hidden with Jesus in God.
This requires a death to self, which will be painful.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.Galatians 2:20
Often we don’t value our life in Jesus because we focus on the temporary life the world offers.
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.2 Timothy 4:10
Jesus is real life.
Everything else is a counterfeit.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.Matthew 13:44
When our view is fixed above, Jesus is all we want.
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:Matthew 6:20
Remember the enemy can give you the things of the world, but his motivation is to pull your heart away from God.
Identify areas of your life where you’ve bought into the lies of the world.
Examine your heart for areas that compete with Jesus as King.
Jesus is coming soon. Live like today is your last.
1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
