Sexual Purity in a Hypersexualized World

Hypersexualization occurs when a person’s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior to the exclusion of other characteristics.

The Bible says that our value comes from being created in the image of God.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.Genesis 1:27

See the Good

Sex and the human body is part of God’s good design within marriage.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.Genesis 2:24

Both are intended to glorify God and bring oneness with your spouse.

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.Hebrews 13:4

Recognize the Danger

Sexual activity outside of marriage is fornication.

Society frames other people and their bodies as usable and discardable.

Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.1 Corinthians 6:13

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Sexual sin is in its own category of destructiveness.

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.1 Corinthians 6:18

Our repeated thoughts and behavior rewire our brains to need more to feel normal.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.James 1:15

Heavy pornography users exhibit altered prefrontal cortex connectivity and impaired top-down self-regulation patterns that parallel substance addiction. Dopamine-driven reward circuits become desensitized with repeated exposure, requiring more novel or extreme content to produce the same response; a pattern researchers call tolerance, mirroring drug addiction.

The FBI logged sextortion as the second most-reported scam category in the US in 2025, with more than 75,000 complaints and over $44 million in losses, a 68% jump from 2024.

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.Proverbs 7:22-23

Pornography is adultery.

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.Matthew 5:28

Pornography feeds human trafficking and sexual slavery.

Repent of Sin

While sin always has consequences, there is never a sin that cannot be forgiven.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9

While we do not celebrate our sin, guilt and shame keep us stuck.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.Romans 8:1

Guilt and shame are fuel for the cycle of sin, not the solution.

Redemption is part of your Jesus story.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.1 Timothy 1:15-16

Fix Your Heart

True repentance develops a hatred for my sin, not just a hatred for my guilt.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.2 Corinthians 7:10

True repentance sees Jesus as more beautiful than my sin.

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.Psalm 27:4

Your actions will show what you really love.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Matthew 6:21

Run from Temptation

Block your ears and eyes.

Protect yourself from temptation.

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.2 Timothy 2:22

Seek accountability.

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Run away from death and everything that it touches.
