POLITICS & THE CHRISTIAN
Romans 13:1-7
If we remember, all authority is God’s and authority is ordained by God, we’ll never fear the circumstances of this world.
Whoever leads is God ordained.
And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.John 19:9-11
God ordained authority is one of several ways He rules over free will.
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.Romans 13:1
What does the Bible say about voting and elections?
A Biblical worldview must be what drives our convictions.
Because our country has freedom of religion, if we mandate Christianity, any other religion could be mandated next.
And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.Luke 9:52-56
Jesus did not force anyone to believe in Him and rebukes those who do.
With the Bible, God’s commandments and principles in mind, we should select the individual who’s vision mirrors God’s word the closest.
God’s design for authority.
Our personal responsibility is to be subject to the higher powers.
Authority is to punish evil and favor the well behaved.
This is not blind submission.
The only reason we should be afraid of authority is if we are doing evil.
Even if the one in charge isn’t following God’s design for authority, if we’ve done nothing wrong, we will have complete peace.
Authorities are God’s servants.
How do we keep positive in a negative world?
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.1 Timothy 2:1-4
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.John 17:15
If we remember, all authority is God’s and authority is ordained by God, we’ll __never fea__r the circumstances of this world.
Whoever gets elected, it’s ordained by God.
Politics can give a false sense of righteousness, and that’s a trick of the enemy.
Whoever gets elected, our God is very much in control.
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Romans 13:1-7
