The Reality of Eternity

There is an inescapable reality of death.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:Hebrews 9:27
Death in the Bible means separation from God.
The Bible tells us of two possible eternal destinies for every person who dies: Heaven or Hell.
And if Heaven is real, Hell is real.
The place of Hell
What does Sheol and Hades mean in the Bible?
Where did Hell come from?
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:Matthew 25:41
What is Hell like?
The Bible clearly states that there is a present and real place called Hell.
The present Hell is a place of torment.
What is the Lake of Fire?
After the Great White Throne Judgment, unbelievers will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire. The Lake of Fire is a terrifying and eternal state for the unbeliever.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.Revelation 20:15
The purpose of Hell
Hell exists as eternal condemnation for the unbeliever.
If you do not agree with eternal condemnation, then you disagree with Jesus.
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;2 Thessalonians 1:9
Those that are saved, are not only saved from their sin, but also saved from God’s wrath in the Lake of Fire, and they will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord.
The place of Heaven
The present Heaven will be a place of God’s presence and comfort.
Those of us who are in Christ, saved and born again, when we die, will immediately be in the presence of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.2 Corinthians 5:6-8
What is the future state of Heaven like?
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.Revelation 21:1-2
What is the New Jerusalem like?
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.Revelation 21:2-3
We need to remember that our true home is in Heaven. Don’t get caught up in the trivial things of this world.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.1 John 2:15-16
The purpose of Heaven
Heaven exists as a place of eternal redemption.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.Revelation 21:5
At the New Heaven and New Earth we will have a redeemed relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
We’ve looked at two eternal places and their purposes. Next will be two eternal groups, believers and unbelievers.
Believers will spend eternity in Heaven because of Jesus Christ’s work on the cross and His resurrection.
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.Revelation 21:7
Unbelievers will be forever separated from God in the Lake of Fire.
The worst part of eternity in the Lake of Fire is the absence of hope.
The best part of Heaven will be dwelling with our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The hope of Heaven gives us strength through sufferings.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.Romans 8:18
We deserve Hell, but get Heaven freely through God’s costly and amazing grace. That is a humbling truth.
You can change eternity for someone.

And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:1-8
