Messages on questions our church family asked to hear preached, taken straight from the Scriptures.
Your identity defines who you are as an individual.
There is a difference between identifying traits and identity.
Identity: the fact of being who or what a person or thing is: the distinguishing character or personality of an individual:
Identifying traits describe us.
Identity defines us.
Many Christians struggle with identity crisis.
Identity Crisis: personal psychosocial conflict especially in adolescence that involves confusion about one’s social role and often a sense of loss of continuity to one’s personality
Lack of clear identity and security in our identity sets us up for colossal future failure.
We must spend less time trying to figure out who we are and more time being who God already says that we are.
Our identity is defined in the fullness of the Trinity.
We are the sons and daughters of God.
We are given the Holy Spirit.
We are joint-heirs with Jesus.
Our identity is not self-focused, but Jesus-focused.
Who does God say I am?
I am loved.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.1 John 4:9-10
I am forgiven.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9
I am blessed.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:Ephesians 1:3
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.Psalm 139:14
I am complete in Jesus.
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:Colossians 2:9-10
I am God’s workmanship.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.Ephesians 2:10
I am a part of the body of Christ.
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.1 Corinthians 12:27
I am created for God’s glory.
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.Revelation 4:11
I am in Christ.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.Colossians 3:3-4
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.Galatians 3:26-27
I am dead to my old nature in Jesus.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.Galatians 2:20
I am alive in Jesus.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)Ephesians 2:4-5
I am a new creature in Jesus.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17
Others cannot identify me, my Father has already said who I am.
As Christians, we live from our identity, not for our identity.
We must be secure in who God has made us to be.
If we are not living our true identity, we are imposters.
12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:12-17
