“According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Philippians 1:20-21

A Study of the Book of Philippians
Magnifying Jesus isn’t just passing the time until your circumstances change.
Magnifying Jesus is about living a life that makes Jesus look good.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
Magnifying Jesus is about leaving a legacy that advances the cause of Christ.
We need a passionate commitment to Jesus.
We need to know Jesus.
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;Philippians 3:9-10
We need to pursue Jesus.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.Philippians 3:13-14
To live is Christ…
Magnifying Jesus is about living practical Christianity.
Practical Christianity changes how I live daily.
Practical Christianity is living a holy, sanctified life that points others to Jesus.
To die is gain…
Magnifying Jesus is about leaving a legacy of faith.
This requires a crystal-clear testimony.
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.2 Timothy 3:10-11
This is not about leaving a self-serving legacy.
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,Philippians 3:7-8
Focus on the eternal.
Whether we live or we die, it’s all about Jesus.
Live well, die well.
Magnifying Jesus is about maximizing God’s glory in your life.
20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:20-21
