A Study of the Book of Philippians

Religious works are not impressive to God.
God desires worship.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.Psalm 24:7-10
God desires faith and repentance.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.2 Peter 3:9
Paul’s Parental Pedigree
Paul’s family was obedient to the law from birth.
Paul was a Jew, not a Jewish convert.
Paul was of the tribe of Benjamin.
Paul’s Personal Pedigree
Paul was a top Jew, not just a nominal follower.
Paul was a Pharisee.
I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.Acts 26:9-11
Paul knew the law and kept it.
One of the tricks of Satan is perpetuating the lie that God just wants you to do a bunch of stuff.
False religion says,“Do this stuff and maybe God will be happy.”
Jesus says, “I’ve done the work. All you must do is receive Me.”
False religion deceives the mind and consequently damns the soul.
The burning question to adherents of false religion is “Have I done enough?”
The biblical answer is always “No.”
However, Christ is always enough.
Satan is the author of all false religion.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.John 8:44
False religion questions not only the authority of the Word of God, but the authority of God, as well.
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?Genesis 3:1
God does not want you to do stuff, He wants your whole heart.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.Proverbs 4:23
4Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Philippians 3:4-11
