“Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;”
Philippians 1:27
The series
A Study of the Book of Philippians
The Christian life is a life of continued growth.
We must grow in sanctification.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.2 Peter 3:18
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.Romans 8:29
We must grow in godly wisdom and maturity.
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.Psalm 49:3
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.Proverbs 2:1-5
Discipleship is God’s plan for growth.
We learn by walking with others.
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.Philippians 3:17
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
Accountability is for everyone.
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
We must take personal ownership for our own spiritual growth.
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.Deuteronomy 4:29
We must take what we have been given and invest it in others.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.2 Timothy 2:2
We remain committed by determining to stand firm.
We must be united in our mission and motivation.
We must be united in our commitment to the faith.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.Romans 12:1
Every Christian should go through some form of discipleship.
Have a growth plan in place.
Seek accountability.
Bring others on the journey.
Determine to never quit.
