Think About What You Think About
Pastor Anthony King· October 24, 2021
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8
The series
A Study of the Book of Philippians
What goes in your mind, goes to your heart and comes out in your words, actions and choices.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.Proverbs 4:23
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.Luke 6:45
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.Mark 7:20-23
We must set filters on our mind by protecting our eyes and ears.
Being intentional about your thought life is NOT
The power of positive thinking.
Altering your circumstances by changing your thinking.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.Matthew 17:20
Manifesting your future.
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.Luke 11:9
Declaring by faith what you want to happen.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.Matthew 17:20
The Word of Faith movement is a form of counterfeit Christianity where God exists to serve us.
Counterfeit Christianity makes me the central character of the Bible. Counterfeit Christianity makes Jesus simply a tool to give us a better life.
Biblical Christianity says we exist to serve God, fulfill His purpose and accomplish His master plan.
Biblical Christianity makes Jesus the central character of the Bible.
Biblical Christianity places us as a small part of the eternal story of God’s magnificent glory.
Why does this matter?
Perspective changes everything.
The world says deep down, everyone is good, we must bring out the good.
The Bible says deep down, everyone is wretched, we must die and be reborn.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.Galatians 5:19-21
When it comes to the thoughts that we think, we must evaluate all things from a biblical perspective.
We have the power to choose where our attention goes.
Eight Biblical Truths to Help You Keep Perspective
God always has a purpose.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.Psalm 90:2
God is working for His glory and for our good.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.Romans 8:28-29
God is always good, even when it doesn’t feel good.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.Romans 5:1-5
God’s ways are greater than ours.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.Isaiah 55:9
We are not required to understand, only to be obedient.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.Proverbs 3:5-6
The story isn’t over yet.
But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;Psalm 103:17
God wants glory from your life.
As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
God is faithful.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.1 Peter 5:10
If your mind sets the trajectory for your heart, be careful what you consume.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
