Special Sundays Message 11 of 55
About the Building
Pastor Anthony King· January 7, 2024
1 Corinthians 3:9-15
Pastor shares this message from the Hibiscus Ballroom at the Ala Moana Hotel as he shares the true importance of the church as more than a structure, but a living community of faith and service. Reflecting on truth from 1 Corinthians 3, this sermon underscores the significance of service, spiritual growth, and Jesus as the foundation for a life of eternal impact. It calls believers to active discipleship, emphasizing the importance of love, community, and serving beyond the confines of a building, thus fulfilling the Great Commission.
“For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.”
1 Corinthians 3:9

We are the building.
The church is a people, not a place.
A building helps us facilitate ministry, but ministry takes place apart from a building.
The work that Jesus desires for us to do was never intended to be confined to a single location.
We are building the church together.
Work is easy. Care is difficult.
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.John 13:34-35
The church is about looking out for others.
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.Romans 13:7-8
Pay attention to how you are building.
Jesus is the foundation.
Not another person.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.Colossians 1:18
Not another place.
Our building will one day be inspected.
Unbelievers will stand at the Great White Throne Judgment.
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.Revelation 20:11-15
Believers will stand at the judgment seat of Christ.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.2 Corinthians 5:10

9For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 10According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 1 Corinthians 3:9-15
