Resolve to Be Rooted

Jeremiah 17:7-8
This sermon from Jeremiah 17:7–8 calls believers to begin the new year by placing their full trust in the Lord rather than in themselves or the world’s promises. When our roots are planted deeply in Christ, God supplies living water that sustains us through trials, heat, and uncertainty. A life rooted in Jesus remains peaceful, fruitful, and spiritually vibrant in every season.
“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8
The series
Messages from Easter, Christmas, New Year, missions and anniversary Sundays, and guest preachers.
Your life will be blessed when you fully trust the Lord.
True blessing in the new year is not found in luck, resolutions, or self-improvement, but in a settled, daily trust in the Lord Himself.
Trusting the Lord means leaning your whole weight on Him, not on your own understanding.
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.Proverbs 3:3-5
Trusting the Lord means fixing your hope on what Jesus has done, not what you can accomplish.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.Hebrews 12:1-2
God roots the trusting heart where His life never runs dry.
God has called you to be deeply planted where His Word and presence continually feed your soul.
God Himself plants and settles His people in Jesus, not in shifting ground.
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.Colossians 2:6-7
God supplies living water by His Spirit so that inwardly you never run dry.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.John 7:38
Be careful of the world’s counterfeit water supply. It doesn’t last.
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.Jeremiah 2:13
A rooted life does not fear the heat or the drought.
We will still feel the heat of trials and the pressure of lean seasons, but we do not allow fear or anxiety to rule us.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.Isaiah 26:3
When your roots are in Jesus, trouble cannot steal your peace.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.John 16:33
When your hope is in the Lord, you can face tomorrow’s unknowns without panic.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!Psalm 21:1
The rooted believer stays green and keeps bearing fruit.
Spiritual growth is not about quick flashes of excitement, but about steady, Spirit-produced fruit that keeps showing up in every season.
God wants visible life in you, real, fresh growth that others can see.
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.John 15:8
Fruit comes as you abide in Jesus day by day, not by trying harder and doing more.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.John 15:5
Trust, not control.
Sink your roots into Scripture.
Stay near the stream through community with your church family.
Bear clear fruit in love and obedience.
7Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
