There is a righteous anger.
Anger against sin, injustice and the works of Satan are examples of righteous anger.
We must examine our hearts even against righteous anger to ensure it isn’t a spirit of pride.
Unrighteous anger is the result of the old, carnal man of the flesh.
Contention is a result of pride.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.Proverbs 13:10
Unrighteous anger gives place to the devil and causes us to believe lies.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.John 8:44
Unforgiveness comes when we are offended and feel as if we are owed something.
What would make this situation right? Can this situation be made right?
The Path of Unresolved Anger
Anger turns to bitterness. Bitterness turns to resentment. Resentment turns to hatred. Hatred turns to indifference.
Forgiveness isn’t an option, it’s a command.
To live with anger and unforgiveness isn’t just unhelpful, it’s a sin.
But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.Mark 11:26
Forgiveness unburdens ourselves of sinful and destructive feelings.
Unforgiveness and anger don’t give you leverage, they destroy you.
Unforgiveness and anger don’t give you an advantage, they steal your joy.
Unforgiveness and anger don’t give you power, they give that person power over you.
Forgiveness on your part requires no interaction from the other party.
Forgiveness is a choice to release the offender of their obligation of their debt.
Whatever you feel as if you are owed, mark the debt as forgiven.
Our example is God’s forgiveness toward us.
God forgives immediately. God forgives unconditionally. God forgives again and again. God forgives and gives grace.
Forgiveness heals matters in our heart, but not always in dealings with others.
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.Romans 12:18
20But ye have not so learned Christ; 21If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27Neither give place to the devil. 28Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:20-32
