Luke 10:1
The series
Messages from Easter, Christmas, New Year, missions and anniversary Sundays, and guest preachers.
Jesus empowered seventy-two disciples with unique authority to prepare towns for His arrival, demonstrating God’s power and the kingdom’s nearness.
While this mission was unique in its time and context, the principles underlying it apply to the New Testament church.
The call to evangelism, reliance on God’s provision, and the urgency of sharing the gospel are timeless aspects of Christian ministry.
God’s wrath is coming.
God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.Nahum 1:2
God is currently withholding His wrath.
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?Romans 2:1-4
God will not be patient forever.
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.Isaiah 26:21
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?Revelation 6:15-17
The need is evident.
Unreached vs. Unevangelized
Unreached People Groups: These groups are defined by having less than 2% Evangelical Christians. Over 3.3 billion people belong to these groups, meaning they have minimal access to the gospel.
There are currently 7,396 languages spoken globally, yet only 736 have a complete Bible translation. This leaves many communities without access to Scripture in their native language.
Unevangelized Individuals: This category includes people who live in areas where there is access to Christian churches or communities, but they have not personally heard or understood a clear gospel presentation. It’s estimated that around 24-27% of the world’s population falls into this category, translating to nearly 2 billion individuals.
Unreached People Groups lack access.
Unevangelized Individuals lack engagement.
We have a command.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.Matthew 28:19-20
The only question is the measure of our obedience.
Pray.
Give.
Go.
We vote for world evangelization not with a pen and paper, but with our hearts and our lives.
1After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. 2Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. 4Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. 5And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. 7And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 10But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 12But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 13Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. 15And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. 16He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me. Luke 10:1-16
