This missions-focused sermon from Romans 10:13–15 teaches that salvation is freely available to all who call on Jesus in faith, but people cannot believe unless they first hear the Gospel. God has chosen to use faithful believers and obedient churches to send messengers who proclaim Christ to the nations. Every Christian is called to participate in the mission—through giving, praying, going, and preparing the next generation to make Jesus known around the world.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:13
The series
Messages from Easter, Christmas, New Year, missions and anniversary Sundays, and guest preachers.
Salvation is freely offered to anyone who calls on the name of the Lord.
God promises to save every sinner who truly calls on Jesus.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.1 Timothy 2:3-4
Calling on Jesus flows from faith in His finished work, not from human goodness.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;Titus 3:5
People can only call on Jesus if they first believe the Gospel.
Faith in Jesus must rest on true knowledge of who He is and what He has done.
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.John 20:31
Many remain lost because they believe lies instead of the Gospel truth.
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.2 Corinthians 4:3-4
People can only believe in Jesus if they hear the Gospel clearly preached.
God uses human messengers to make Jesus known to those who have never heard.
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.1 Corinthians 1:21
The command to preach the Gospel reaches every creature in every nation.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.Mark 16:15
Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.Psalm 96:3
Preachers can only go and preach if Jesus’ church obeys and sends them.
Jesus calls and sends His messengers through obedient churches.
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.Acts 13:2-3
To God, the obedience of senders is beautiful, not optional.
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.Philippians 4:15-17
Have I been saved?
Am I fulfilling my mission?
Am I active in sharing and sending with the body of Christ?
Am I preparing my children for the mission?
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:13-15
