Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 123 of 150
Blindness to Blessing
Pastor Anthony King· August 24, 2025
Romans 11:25-27
God allowed Israel's spiritual blindness for a time as part of His sovereign plan to restore His people and bring salvation to the Gentiles. This sermon calls believers to trust God's timing, stay humble, and rejoice in His promise of forgiveness and renewal through Jesus Christ.
“For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”
Romans 11:25
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Israel’s partial blindness is temporary and allowed by God.
God sometimes allows spiritual blindness for a purpose, demonstrating His sovereignty and unfolding His plan over time.
For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.Isaiah 29:10
The hardening of Israel is partial, not total, leaving room for hope and future restoration.
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.Romans 11:5
At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.Isaiah 17:7
This hardening will be completed when the fullness of the Gentiles has come.
The full inclusion of the Gentiles precedes Israel’s restoration.
God’s redemptive plan embraces the Gentiles, so that all nations have access to salvation through faith.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.Isaiah 60:3
The fullness of the Gentiles coming in signals a pivotal moment in salvation history.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.John 10:16
All Israel shall ultimately be saved through the Deliverer.
The promise of salvation for Israel is rooted in the coming of the Deliverer, Jesus Christ, who alone has power to remove sin.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.John 1:29
“All Israel” means the entire nation that survives God’s judgment during the Great Tribulation.
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.Zechariah 13:8-9
Before all Israel is saved, its unbelieving, ungodly members will be separated out by God’s judgment.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you: And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD. And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.Ezekiel 20:33-38
Just as the fullness of the Gentiles will initiate the salvation of Israel, so the salvation of Israel will initiate the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus.
God’s covenant with Israel secures final forgiveness and restoration.
God will keep His covenant and take away the sins of His people, performing the work of true spiritual renewal.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.Jeremiah 31:34
This new covenant is grounded in God’s mercy, not human merit, offering hope to every repentant heart.
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.Psalm 51:1
Trust that God’s plans for people and nations unfold according to His wisdom and perfect timing. Do not lose hope even when it seems He delays.
Remain humble and avoid spiritual pride, remembering that salvation is always by grace, not works or heritage.
Pray and work for the salvation of both Jews and Gentiles, knowing God desires to save all who believe.
Rejoice and walk in the assurance that God keeps His promises to forgive and restore, offering new life in Jesus to all who turn to Him.
25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Romans 11:25-27
