Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 120 of 150
God Has Not Cast Away His People
Pastor Anthony King· August 3, 2025
Romans 11:1-6
A sermon on Romans 11:1-6: God has not cast away His people. His faithfulness and grace stay constant even when we fall short, and He always preserves a remnant by grace, proving that His promises endure through every generation.
“I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.”
Romans 11:1
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
God’s faithfulness endures despite human failure.
God’s faithfulness is rooted in His unchangeable character and promises, not in our human performance.
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.Romans 11:29
God’s people are never fully abandoned, even when many turn away. His steadfast love remains.
For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.1 Samuel 12:22
Though we may fail God, He never fails us. You can never lose your salvation.
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he can not deny himself.2 Timothy 2:13
God always maintains a remnant by grace.
The existence of a remnant is the result of God’s preservation work, not our human work.
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.Isaiah 1:9
God’s knowledge of His people means He has chosen them for Himself.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.2 Timothy 2:19
The remnant is chosen solely by grace, not by works.
Grace and works cannot be mixed. Salvation is either all by grace or not by grace at all.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9
Our works for salvation nullify God’s grace. God’s grace nullifies our good works.
Grace secures our standing with God and excludes any place for human boasting.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.Romans 3:27
God’s covenant promises ensure the continuance of His people.
God’s covenant faithfulness means He preserves a people for Himself, even in judgment.
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.Malachi 3:6
The fact that the remnant still remains proves that God keeps His promises and stays faithful, no matter how much time passes.
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;Deuteronomy 7:9
Trust God’s unfailing promises.
God’s grace drives us to good works.
Find peace in God’s sovereignty.
You are never alone. Your story is part of a bigger story of God’s redemption.
Tell your story as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
1I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, 3Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 4But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Romans 11:1-6
