Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 127 of 150
God’s Will is Not Complicated
Pastor Anthony King· September 28, 2025
Romans 12:2
A sermon on Romans 12:2: God's will is good, acceptable and perfect, and a renewed mind is how we come to know it. Living in God's will is not about decoding hidden mysteries but about daily obedience, surrender, and lining our lives up with His Word, which brings joy, peace and purpose and glorifies Him.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
God’s will is:
Good: beneficial Acceptable: pleasing Perfect: complete, lacking nothing
God’s will is discoverable through a transformed life.
God is not trying to keep His will hidden. It’s not a hidden code to be deciphered.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.Psalm 119:105
God’s will is consistent with His Word and character.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.Matthew 6:33
God’s will become clear to those who allow their minds and hearts to be renewed by His Word, not conformed to worldly thinking.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.Joshua 1:8
As our minds are transformed, we see life from God’s perspective and we want what He wants.
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.Psalm 37:4
Obedience is the first step in fulfilling God’s will.
Genuine obedience is the natural response of a renewed heart. God’s will is that you would obey Him.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.1 John 5:3
Obedience may require sacrifice, humility or courage, but it always brings blessing and aligns us with God’s purposes.
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.Deuteronomy 28:1-2
The ultimate purpose of God’s will is His glory.
God’s will always results in Him being honored and magnified, whether through our actions, attitudes, or choices.
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.Philippians 1:20
When we prioritize God’s glory above our own interests, we find deep satisfaction and purpose.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.Matthew 5:16
Living in God’s will is a daily surrender.
If you want to be in the middle of God’s will this time next year, start by being in the middle of God’s will today.
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.Luke 9:23
Daily surrender leads to a life full of joy, peace, fruitfulness and a deeper relationship with God and more meaningful relationships with others.
Examine your motivations and decisions in light of God’s Word each day. We should ask, “Does this glorify God?”
Practice immediate obedience even in small matters, knowing it is part of walking in God’s will.
Make prayer a daily discipline, seeking God’s guidance and surrendering your desires to Him.
Choose to honor God in how you speak, work, serve and relate to others, giving Him glory in every situation.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2
