Romans 5:9
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Romans 5:9
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Justified in Jesus’ Blood
Romans 5:9
God’s law declared us guilty and our conscience confirmed the verdict.
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.Romans 3:19-20
Before we had the law in written form, God had written His law upon our hearts.
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)Romans 2:14-15
God’s love was not enough to save us, His justice required a payment for our sins.
The justification that Jesus offers declares us not only innocent, but righteous.
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;Romans 3:24-25
We are justified by Jesus.
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:Romans 3:24
We are justified by the blood of Jesus.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.Romans 5:9
We are justified by faith.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:1
We are justified by grace.
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:Romans 3:24
We are never justified by our works.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.Galatians 2:16
If you believe that your salvation is based on both faith and works, you are not genuinely saved.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.Galatians 5:1-4
What exactly are we saved from?
Saved from death.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.John 5:24
Saved from God judgment.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.Romans 8:1
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.John 3:18
Saved from wrath.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.Romans 5:9
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.John 3:36
Saved to a new life.
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.John 10:9-10
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:Ephesians 2:3-6
Jesus is the only means to avoid God’s wrath.
Someone must bear responsibility for absolving God’s judgment on sin.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.Colossians 3:5-7
Jesus has offered up His life as an atoning sacrifice to take our wrath upon Himself.
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.1 Thessalonians 1:10
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Romans 5:9
