The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
We are loved by God.
God is love.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.1 John 4:7-8
God displays His love through His grace.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.Psalm 42:8
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.Psalm 51:1
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.Psalm 63:3
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.Psalm 69:16
God’s ultimate display of love was the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.1 John 4:10
We are called to be saints.
If you are saved, you are a saint.
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.Romans 1:7
Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:Philippians 1:1
We never find a single instance in the Bible where saints are revered or prayed to.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;1 Timothy 2:5
Saints are the “holy ones”.
We did not need to be called to be sinners.
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.Psalm 58:3
By salvation, we have been called to be saints.
We are ambassadors of grace and peace.
The antidote for offense is grace.
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.Colossians 3:12-13
“I sure hope that isn’t true…” “Maybe they’ve got a lot going on…”
We must become experts at extending grace.
The antidote for confusion is peace.
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.James 3:16
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.1 Corinthians 14:33
Biblical peace is a stillness in the depths of your soul that flows from obedience to God and rest in the sovereignty of God.
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:7
