Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 104 of 150
God's Gracious Plan of Salvation
Pastor Anthony King· September 29, 2024
Romans 8:28-30
From the beginning of time, God had a plan of salvation for mankind. This sermon traces His gracious plan to save sinners through Jesus Christ.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
God’s foreknowledge informs His plan for those who will believe.
God’s foreknowledge is based on His omniscience.
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.1 Peter 1:2
God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,Romans 11:2
God’s plan includes those He knows will respond to His grace.
Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:Acts 2:23
God’s calling is a universal invitation extended to all people.
The external call comes through the proclamation of the gospel to everyone.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.Matthew 28:19-20
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,Titus 2:11
The internal call can be accepted or rejected by individuals.
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.Matthew 22:2-7
Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.Acts 7:51
God’s justification is offered to all who respond in faith and repentance.
Justification is available to anyone who believes.
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:Romans 3:22
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.John 3:16
Justification results in peace with God for those who accept it.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:1
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.Colossians 1:19-20
God’s glorification is the promise for the genuine believer.
Glorification involves being conformed to the image of Christ for believers.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.2 Corinthians 3:18
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.Philippians 3:20-21
Glorification leads to eternal life for God’s children.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.1 Peter 1:3-5
God has a plan for your life that began in eternity past.
God’s will for your life is that you would be like Jesus.
Live daily with a sense of purpose knowing that you have a unique opportunity to glorify God.
Rest secure in your salvation, knowing that God will complete the work He started in you and bring you to Heaven when it’s time.
28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30
