Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 27 of 150
God’s Law Revealed to Every Man
Pastor Anthony King· October 30, 2022
Romans 2:12-16
“For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;”
Romans 2:12
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Jews and Gentiles are dealt with equally, but from differing perspectives.
The Jews will be judged by the law which they have received and perish.
The Gentiles do not have the Law and will perish, because they have sinned.
No one gets a free pass.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:Hebrews 9:27
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:Romans 2:6
Does God allow the innocent and ignorant to perish?
No one is innocent.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;Romans 3:23
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.Romans 3:10-18
Ignorance is no excuse.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:Romans 1:18-20
Mankind is not condemned for what he doesn’t know, but for disobeying what he knows.
The question should not be “Why would God send unreached people to Hell?”, but rather “Why do Christians care so little for the unreached on their way to Hell?”
It is not enough to only hear the Law, or the Word of God, one must obey what they hear.
God is not simply looking for knowledge, but obedience.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.James 1:22
To be justified, declared righteous, one must keep every aspect of the Law.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.James 2:10
This verse doesn’t give false hope that one can be saved through the Law, but drives home the point that you cannot.
How do cultures spread across the globe throughout thousands of years of world civilization come to an agreed upon code of acceptable moral behavior?
God has written his law upon the heart of every man.
How can man disobey God’s Law if it is written on his heart?
Man disregards God.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.Romans 1:21
Man’s foolish heart is darkened.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.Romans 1:21
Man creates his own morality.
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.Romans 1:25
God gives man up to his corrupt mind.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;Romans 1:28
12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 16In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. Romans 2:12-16
