Pastor Anthony King· June 23, 2024
Romans 8:1-4
God sent His own Son to free us from sin and death. This sermon celebrates the freedom every believer has in Jesus Christ.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Being justified in Jesus begins our sanctification.
We are positionally sanctified by being placed in Jesus.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.1 Corinthians 15:22
We are practically sanctified by growing to be like Jesus.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;Titus 2:11-12
Being in Jesus changes our direction.
We now walk after the Spirit.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.Galatians 5:25
To walk after the Spirt requires us to walk away from the flesh.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.Galatians 5:16
Authentic salvation will bring about authentic obedience.
Being in Jesus breaks the power of sin.
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.Romans 6:17-18
The Spirit provides victory over sin.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.Galatians 5:16
The Spirit liberated us from the law of sin and death.
We were made alive and set free by the Truth of the Gospel.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.John 6:63
Permanently set free from sin’s penalty.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:1
Permanently set free from sin’s power.
He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.Micah 7:19
Ultimately completely free from sin’s presence.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.Revelation 21:4
The Holy Spirit now creates, sustains, directs and enriches our life.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.Galatians 5:25
Our new life in Christ should look new.
The more we walk away from the Spirit, the more we walk toward our flesh.
We now live by a new law that guides our thoughts, our words and our actions.
1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4
