Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 106 of 150
The Enduring Love of Jesus
Pastor Anthony King· November 10, 2024
Romans 8:35-39
Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus. This sermon celebrates the enduring love that holds every believer secure.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
Romans 8:35
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Once we are in Christ, we are inseparable from the love of Christ.
Our sins have been covered by His blood.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.1 John 4:9-10
This is a source of continual hope and encouragement.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
His love is not dependent on our behavior, as we were loved when we were sinners.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 5:8
Suffering cannot separate us from the love of Jesus.
Even in times of deep pressure.
Even when we cannot see a way through.
Even in times of persecution.
Even in times of financial difficulty.
Even in times of danger or fear.
God’s people have always endured suffering, but have always been able to lean upon God’s everlasting arms.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.Isaiah 41:10
We are not to merely survive, but to thrive.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.John 16:33
We are not survivors, but conquerors.
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.Isaiah 25:8
Conquerors are bold, battle-tested and stand in the power of God.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.James 1:2-4
If you ever feel like God does not love you, you have believed a lie.
You cannot outrun the love and grace of God.
You cannot do anything to lose the love of God, as you did nothing to earn it.
You have been covered by the love and grace of God from the beginning. His love and grace will bring you home.
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39
