Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 143 of 150
God Promises Keep the Hope Flowing
Pastor Anthony King· August 2, 2026
Romans 15:8-13
A sermon on Romans 15:8-13: Jesus is the ultimate proof that God keeps His promises. God's plan has always been to extend mercy to all people and unite every nation in worship through Christ, and as believers trust His promises, the Holy Spirit fills them with joy, peace and overflowing hope for the mission.
“Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:”
Romans 15:8
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Jesus proves that God keeps His promises.
Jesus came as Israel’s servant to confirm everything God told the fathers is true.
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.2 Corinthians 1:20
Because God kept His biggest promise in Jesus, you can trust Him in the smaller details of your life.
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?Numbers 23:19
God’s mercy pulls different people into the same song of praise.
God’s plan has always been that the nations would glorify Him for His mercy, not their merit.
O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.Psalm 117:1
When you receive mercy, you lose the right to look down on anyone else Jesus is willing to save.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;Ephesians 2:14
Jesus is the hope of every person, not just one group.
To the Jews, He came to confirm the promises and display God’s faithfulness. To the Gentiles, He came that they might glorify God and display His mercy.
Jesus, the root of Jesse, is the promised King who invites the nations to trust Him.
And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.Isaiah 11:10
Because Jesus is the hope of all, you should never write off anyone as beyond His reach.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.Romans 10:13
The God of hope wants you overflowing with joy, peace, and Spirit-given hope.
Joy and peace grow as you keep choosing to believe what God has said.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.Isaiah 26:3
Joy and peace do not come through circumstances. They come through believing what God has said.
Overflowing hope is not a personality type. It’s the Holy Spirit at work in a trusting heart.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,Galatians 5:22
Because Jesus proves God keeps His promises, you can obey God today with confidence even when you don’t see how it will all work out yet.
Since God’s mercy gathers Jews and Gentiles into one worshiping family, you should move toward believers who are different from you instead of staying in safe, comfortable circles.
Because Jesus is the hope of all nations, you should keep praying for and sharing the Gospel with “unlikely” people instead of quietly deciding they will never respond.
Since the God of hope wants to fill you with joy, peace, and overflowing hope through the Holy Spirit, you should daily bring your worries to Him in believing prayer instead of trying to manage everything in your own strength.
8Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: 9And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. 10And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. 11And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. 12And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. 13Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:8-13
