Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 144 of 150
A Trailblazing Gospel
Pastor Anthony King· August 9, 2026
Romans 15:14-21
A sermon on Romans 15:14-21: a spiritually healthy church is the base for taking the Gospel to people who have never heard the name of Jesus. It challenges the church to embrace its calling, depend on the Holy Spirit, and measure success by faithful obedience and spiritual fruit, not numbers or recognition.
“And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.”
Romans 15:14
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
Trailblazing Gospel work flows from a spiritually healthy church.
Healthy churches are marked by Spirit-produced goodness and doctrinal fullness.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.Galatians 5:22-23
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.Colossians 3:16
Healthy churches admonish one another and are ready to be mobilized for Gospel advance.
admonish: to lovingly warn, correct, or counsel someone from God’s Word in order to help them recognize error, avoid sin, and walk in obedience to Christ.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.1 Thessalonians 5:14
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.Hebrews 10:24-25
Trailblazing Gospel work embraces our calling as ministers of the gospel to the nations.
God gives grace-assignments, and we must accept our place in His mission with humility and obedience.
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.1 Corinthians 15:10
Gospel ministry to the nations keeps Jesus at the center, not our preferences, culture, or traditions.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.Colossians 1:18
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.2 Corinthians 4:5
Trailblazing Gospel work boasts only in what Jesus has done through us.
True Gospel advance is Jesus working through yielded servants to produce real obedience among those who believe.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.Philippians 2:13
True Gospel advance depends on the power of the Holy Ghost, not on human cleverness or strength.
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.Zechariah 4:6
Trailblazing Gospel work aims for places and people still unreached.
Gospel ambition is a God-given desire to go where Jesus is not yet known rather than merely maintaining what others have built.
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.Mark 1:35-38
Gospel ambition is shaped by Scripture and seeks those who have not heard so they may see and understand.
For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.Acts 13:47
We must position Huikala as a missions-ready church by pursuing goodness, biblical depth, and mutual admonition so we develop believers fit for deployment.
Identify and own your grace-assignment in the Great Commission as your personal offering to God.
We evaluate the success or failure of our ministry by obedience, fruit, and dependence on the Spirit rather than numbers, platforms, or popularity.
We must continue to intentionally target unreached neighborhoods, people groups, and networks where Jesus is not named, and pray for a holy ambition to go there first.
14And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 15Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, 16That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. 17I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. 18For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 19Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation: 21But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand. Romans 15:14-21
