Romans: The Power of the Gospel Message 110 of 150
The Inclusion of Gentiles in God's Plan
Pastor Anthony King· May 25, 2025
Romans 9:25-29
God's sovereign plan has always included the Gentiles in His covenant family, because salvation has always been by faith, not ethnicity. This study highlights the power of God's mercy, the faithful remnant He preserves, and the certainty of His promises.
“As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.”
Romans 9:25
The series
Verse by verse through Paul’s letter to the church at Rome: the Gospel of God’s righteousness, from our ruin in sin to life lived as a living sacrifice.
God prophesied the inclusion of Gentiles in His covenant family.
The Lord planned from ancient times to include all nations.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.Genesis 12:3
Divine mercy extends beyond ethnic boundaries to all who believe.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.Galatians 3:28-29
The Gospel has always been global in scope, and God’s mercy is not confined by geography or heritage.
And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.Isaiah 49:6
Only a remnant of Israel will be saved through faith in Christ.
Salvation has always operated through a faithful remnant.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.Isaiah 10:20-22
The Lord preserves a portion of His people through faith.
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.Romans 11:5
God’s plan was never about the majority. It’s always been about the faithful few who trust Him.
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.Matthew 7:14
God’s faithfulness ensures the preservation of a believing remnant.
The Lord accomplishes His word with precision and power.
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.Isaiah 55:11
God’s promises guarantee the survival of God’s people.
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he can not deny himself.2 Timothy 2:13
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.Romans 11:29
Without God’s merciful intervention, Israel would have faced complete destruction.
Divine mercy prevents the total annihilation of the rebellious.
They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them. Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another. Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.Isaiah 48:7-12
God’s grace provides opportunity for restoration.
And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.Joel 2:13
Celebrate God’s mercy that reached you.
Don’t be discouraged by small numbers. God works through remnants.
Trust in the unshakable promises of God.
Choose mercy, grace and patience like God does.
25As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. 26And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. 27Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: 28For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. 29And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha. Romans 9:25-29
